Will Power made the most of his second chance to make the Indianapolis 500, putting his Team Penske car into the field Sunday despite hitting the wall on his qualifying attempt.
Power, who won the Indy 500 in 2018, brushed the wall with his right rear wheel in Turn 2 of his final qualifying lap, but he was able to complete the run and will start 32nd in next Sunday’s race.
Sage Karam and Simona de Silvestro also qualified for the last row, while Charlie Kimball and RC Enerson couldn’t find enough speed.
By qualifying, Power continued a streak of Roger Penske cars making the Indianapolis 500. The last time a Penske car missed the race was 1995 with Al Unser Jr. and Emerson Fittipaldi.
De Silvestro is back in the Indy 500 for the first time since 2015 with a female-led race team that is backed by Penske in his push for diversity.
Pole position for the race will be decided later Sunday.
