Podcast: Why Marquez’s Qatar MotoGP absence hints at a stronger rider

The Honda rider has only recently been able to start training on motorcycles again following his third operation on the right arm he broke in last July’s Spanish GP.

Despite this, videos of the six-time world champion tearing up the Barcelona and Algarve circuits aboard an RC213V-S track bike led almost the entire MotoGP paddock to think he will be on the grid for the Qatar GP.

It won’t be until the third round in Portugal in mid April that we see Marquez racing again at the earliest, but his decision to heed his doctors’ advice shows a rider who has learned from past mistakes and hints at an even stronger Marquez than we’ve seen before.

In the latest Tank Slappers Podcast, Autosport’s Lewis Duncan and Motorsport.com’s Oriol Puigdemont discuss Marquez’s decision and what effect it will also have on the grid this weekend in Qatar.

They also look ahead to this weekend’s 2021 season-opener and pick their favourites for victory.
